Title: Academic Advisor


Job Overview:


The Academic Advisor will provide academic counselling and support to students to help them achieve their educational and career goals. They will collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement academic programs that align with the institution's mission and values. The Academic Advisor will also provide guidance on course selection, degree requirements, study habits, and time management.


Key Responsibilities:


     Conduct academic advising sessions with students to assist them in developing academic plans and selecting appropriate courses.

     Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement academic programs that align with the institution's mission and values.

     Assist students in navigating academic policies, procedures, and requirements.

     Monitor students' academic progress and intervene when necessary to address academic concerns.

     Provide guidance and support to students with academic challenges, such as time management, study habits, and test-taking strategies.

     Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of academic advising sessions and student progress.

     Assist with the development and implementation of orientation and retention programs.

     Participate in professional development activities to stay current on trends and best practices in academic advising.

     Collaborate with other departments to ensure that student support services are integrated and aligned with the institution's mission and values.




     Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or related field required; Master's degree preferred.

     Minimum of 2 years of experience in academic advising or related field.

     Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

     Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.

     Familiarity with academic policies, procedures, and requirements.

     Knowledge of career and educational opportunities.

     Excellent organizational and time management skills.

     Familiarity with student information systems and academic software.

     Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

     Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

     Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

     Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.


Physical Requirements:


The position may require prolonged sitting, standing, and/or walking, as well as occasional lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
