Job Title: Child Life Specialist

 

Job Summary:

As a Child Life Specialist, you will be responsible for providing emotional and developmental support to children and their families during hospitalization or medical procedures. Your duties will include preparing children for procedures, providing play and recreational activities, and educating children and families about medical conditions and treatments. You will also be responsible for advocating for children's needs and collaborating with healthcare providers to ensure that children receive appropriate care.

 

Responsibilities:

- Provide emotional and developmental support to children and their families during hospitalization or medical procedures.

- Prepare children for medical procedures using age-appropriate language and techniques, and provide support during procedures.

- Provide play and recreational activities for children, including individual and group activities, to promote coping and normal development.

- Educate children and families about medical conditions and treatments, using age-appropriate language and materials.

- Advocate for children's needs and collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure that children receive appropriate care.

- Participate in multidisciplinary healthcare teams to plan and coordinate care for children and families.

- Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with children and families, and provide ongoing support throughout hospitalization and recovery.

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient care and observations.

- Participate in ongoing training and education to maintain knowledge of child development and medical procedures.

 

Requirements:

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Child Life or a related field.

- Certification as a Child Life Specialist or eligibility to become certified.

- In-depth knowledge of child development and healthcare systems.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively with children, families, and healthcare providers.

- Ability to provide emotional and developmental support to children and families in a healthcare setting.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.

- Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with healthcare providers.

- Willingness to work flexible hours and adjust to changes in patient needs and staffing requirements.

- Experience working as a Child Life Specialist, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting.
