Job Title: Host/Hostess
Introduction:
A host or hostess is responsible for greeting customers, escorting them to their table, and managing the front of the restaurant to ensure efficient and quality service. They are the first point of contact for customers and must maintain a professional and welcoming demeanor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome guests as they arrive and show them to their table
- Answer questions regarding menu items and specials, as well as restaurant policies and procedures
- Manage the flow of customers in and out of the restaurant, ensuring efficient seating and minimizing wait times
- Keep track of reservations and make sure they are properly scheduled and communicated to the restaurant staff
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the host/hostess stand and surrounding areas
- Answer phone calls and take orders for take-out or delivery, as needed
- Assist servers and other staff members as needed, such as with clearing tables or serving drinks
- Provide excellent customer service and address any concerns or complaints from customers
- Handle cash and credit card transactions accurately and efficiently
- Work collaboratively with the restaurant team to ensure a positive overall customer experience
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework or a degree in hospitality management is preferred
- Prior experience in a restaurant or customer service role is preferred
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak clearly and professionally with customers and coworkers
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to manage multiple customers and tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and remain calm and professional under pressure
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 25 pounds
Salary:
The salary for a host or hostess can vary based on experience, location, and the type of restaurant. On average, the salary ranges from $9.00 to $15.00 per hour, plus tips.
