Librarian Job Description

 

Title: Librarian

 

Job Summary:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Librarian to manage our library resources and provide support to our patrons. The Librarian will be responsible for organizing and maintaining library materials, assisting patrons with research and reference needs, and developing and delivering programs and services that promote literacy and lifelong learning.

 

Responsibilities:

 

●     Organize and maintain library materials, including books, magazines, newspapers, and digital resources.

●     Develop and maintain a cataloguing system to ensure materials are easily accessible and accurately labelled.

●     Assist patrons with research and reference needs, including recommending books, locating resources, and providing instruction on research strategies and techniques.

●     Develop and deliver programs and services that promote literacy and lifelong learning, such as book clubs, storytime, and workshops.

●     Manage library budgets and purchasing, including selecting and acquiring new materials and resources.

●     Collaborate with other library staff and community organizations to develop and promote library programs and services.

●     Manage and supervise library staff, including hiring, training, and scheduling.

●     Maintain knowledge of current trends and best practices in library science, technology, and education.

●     Adhere to library policies, procedures, and regulations.

 

Requirements:

 

●     Bachelor's degree in Library Science or related field.

●     Master's degree in Library Science preferred.

●     Minimum of two years of experience in library services or related fields.

●     Strong knowledge of library science principles and best practices.

●     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

●     Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

●     Knowledge of library systems and cataloguing software.

●     Strong organization and time-management skills.

●     Ability to manage budgets and purchasing.

●     Supervisory and management experience preferred.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

●     Master's degree in Library Science or related field.

●     Proficiency in multiple languages.

●     Familiarity with educational technology tools and their integration into library services.
