Job Title: Referral Coordinator

 

Job Summary:

As a referral coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating patient referrals from primary care providers to specialists and other healthcare professionals. Your duties will include obtaining insurance authorization, scheduling appointments, communicating with patients and healthcare professionals, and maintaining accurate records of referrals and appointments. You will also be responsible for monitoring the status of referrals and ensuring that patients receive timely and appropriate care.

 

Responsibilities:

- Coordinate patient referrals from primary care providers to specialists and other healthcare professionals.

- Obtain insurance authorization and verify eligibility and benefits for referred services.

- Schedule appointments and follow up with patients to ensure that they attend their appointments and receive appropriate care.

- Communicate with patients and healthcare professionals, including primary care providers, specialists, and insurance companies, to coordinate care and ensure that treatment plans are being followed.

- Maintain accurate records of referrals, appointments, and insurance authorizations, and ensure that patient information is entered into electronic health records.

- Monitor the status of referrals and follow up with healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive timely and appropriate care.

- Assist in the development and implementation of referral policies and procedures, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

 

Requirements:

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance authorization processes, and referral coordination.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.

- Proficiency with computers and software applications, including electronic health records and scheduling software.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Commitment to patient confidentiality and privacy.

- Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures and technologies.

- Experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a referral coordination or scheduling role.
