School Nurse Job Description

 

Job Title: School Nurse

 

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate School Nurse to provide medical care and support services to students in our school. The School Nurse will be responsible for promoting health and wellness, preventing illness and injury, and responding to medical emergencies as needed.

 

Responsibilities:

 

●     Provide basic first aid and medical care to students as needed, including administering medication, treating minor injuries, and providing emergency care

●     Develop and implement health and wellness programs to promote healthy behaviours and prevent illness and injury

●     Conduct health assessments and screenings, and provide referrals to medical professionals as needed

●     Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, and comply with all legal and ethical guidelines regarding student privacy and confidentiality

●     Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student health and wellness, and to promote a safe and healthy school environment

●     Provide health education and counselling to students, families, and school personnel on topics related to health and wellness

●     Stay up-to-date on best practices and research in school nursing and student health services

●     Participate in school-wide activities and events, and collaborate with other school personnel to promote a positive school culture and environment

 

Requirements:

 

●     Bachelor's degree in nursing, and a state certification or licensure as a registered nurse

●     2-3 years of experience in nursing, preferably in a school or pediatric setting

●     Knowledge of nursing theory and practice, as well as federal, state, and local regulations governing school health services

●     Strong clinical skills, with the ability to assess and treat a variety of medical conditions and injuries

●     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and school personnel

●     Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

●     Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in all aspects of the job, and to promoting a safe and inclusive school environment.
