School Social Worker Job Description


Job Title: School Social Worker


Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced School Social Worker to provide counselling, support, and advocacy services to students and families in our school community. The School Social Worker will be responsible for helping students to overcome social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, and for promoting positive relationships among students, families, and school personnel.




     Provide individual and group counselling services to students, addressing a range of social, emotional, and behavioural issues

     Conduct family assessments and provide support services to families, including referrals to community resources and assistance with accessing social services

     Advocate for students and families within the school system, and collaborate with other school personnel to develop and implement intervention plans

     Develop and implement prevention and intervention programs to promote healthy behaviours and positive social-emotional development

     Conduct home visits and participate in parent-teacher conferences to support student success and academic achievement

     Maintain accurate and confidential student records, and comply with all legal and ethical guidelines regarding student privacy and confidentiality

     Stay up-to-date on best practices and research in social work and student support services

     Participate in school-wide activities and events, and collaborate with other school personnel to promote a positive school culture and environment




     Master's degree in social work or a related field

     State certification or licensure as a school social worker

     3-5 years of experience in social work, preferably in a K-12 setting

     Knowledge of social work theory and practice, as well as federal, state, and local regulations governing student support services

     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and school personnel

     Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

     Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in all aspects of the job, and to promoting a safe and inclusive school environment.
