Job Title: Veterinary Technician
Job Summary:
As a veterinary technician, you will assist veterinarians in providing quality medical care to animals. You will be responsible for administering medication, preparing animals for surgery, monitoring anaesthesia, collecting samples for laboratory testing, and providing client education. You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate medical records, cleaning and sterilizing equipment, and ensuring the clinic or hospital is clean and well-maintained.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the veterinarian in patient care, including administering medication, performing diagnostic tests, and collecting samples for laboratory testing.
- Prepare animals for surgery, including monitoring anaesthesia, sterilizing equipment, and providing post-operative care.
- Provide compassionate nursing care to hospitalized patients, including feeding, bathing, and administering medication.
- Educate clients on topics such as preventive care, medication administration, and nutrition.
- Maintain accurate medical records, including patient history, treatment plans, and progress notes.
- Order and stock supplies, including medication, equipment, and food.
- Perform routine laboratory tests, including urinalysis and blood work.
- Ensure that the clinic or hospital is clean and well-maintained, including cleaning and sterilizing equipment, and maintaining a clean and orderly work environment.
- Assist in the training and supervision of veterinary assistants and other support staff.
Requirements:
- Associate degree in veterinary technology or a related field.
- Certified or licensed as a veterinary technician in the state of employment.
- Knowledge of animal behavior, anatomy, and physiology.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong customer service skills and a commitment to providing compassionate care to animals and their owners.
